Rec: BBC Sherlock Fanfiction (1)

I’ve decided to put together a list of my favorite BBC Sherlock Fanfiction. In no particular order:

Where You Need To Be by dreykar

Summary: After a ‘boring’ week Mycroft brings news of a family death to Sherlock and John. But this is no murder case, something far worse. It’s a reason for Sherlock to have to interact with his family and for John to slowly discover parts of his friend’s past.

Loved it because: It’s surprisingly deep and personal. Sherlock shines in this story, coming to life in the middle of his family tragedy. We learn about the death of his mother and possible reasons why he is as cold as he seems. Mycroft is a master manipulator here, but he does it because he loves his little brother and has his best intentions in mind. John is a supportive figure — there for Sherlock when he needs him the most. His interactions with the family are crack-tastic. It’s a great read.

Worthless  by Jomel10

Summary: John is hurt when Sherlock forgets to meet him again. What is their friendship worth? Meanwhile, Sherlock has a dramatic confrontation with Anderson, which will change everything. Can John help Sherlock recover?
Loved it because: It’s my dirty little secret. It’s so horrific that I can’t pull yourself away from the computer screen. The ‘bad guy’ is a person you wouldn’t expect. Plus, Jomel is awesome. Can’t recommend it enough, but beware of the rating and the theme. Also, it becomes slashy…which is not my favorite, but I can ignore it because it’s Sherlock/John. It’s not enough to hurt him once, but having to see your attacker at work every day — it’s just torture.

Tears Of the Violinist by SUPRNTRAL LVR
Summary: Sherlock is taken by Moriarty, and when he’s found he’s going to need John more than ever as he makes his way slowly back to normality.
Loved it because:  A friend recommended it because I’m a sucker for a long h/c story, so I’d like to recommend it back.

Partners in Crime  by Richefic

Summary: John Watson receives some devastating news which puts a spanner in his medical ambitions. Will Sherlock prove capable of the kind of comfort and reassurance he needs or will their partnership be ended before its even begun? Set between 1.1 and 1.2.

Loved it because:  It was one of the first fics I read when I started getting into this fandom. Richefic was one of my favorite authors in the NCIS fandom, so I decided to give her new story a try. I read it and fell in love with Sherlock and immediately watched the first season as soon as possible.

And A Doctor by StillWaters1

Summary: It was only when people actually saw John working as a physician that they began to understand: that it wasn’t just about bullets and IEDs and trauma care under fire. That “doctor” actually covered a pretty wide field. And that John was bloody good at covering ground. 5 times Dr. Watson treated others and 1 time he treated himself.

Loved it because: John is a doctor here and a damn good one at that. I would recommend this story based on the first chapter alone. My favorite part is when John takes care of Lestrade when he becomes dehydrated and weak. Actually, I would recommend anything that StillWaters1 has written.
